Stay informed and take the opportunity to vote.
Today, the Government of Alberta announced a provincial election to be held on April 16th, 2019.
I am writing this note to encourage you to participate, not to influence you on how to vote. It is a small number of countries that have true, open, democratic processes that allow for citizens to have their voice heard. Here in North America, we are lucky to have that chance. I encourage you to exercise your right and responsibility to participate in our governing processes and get out to vote.
The other thing I highly encourage you to do is spend some time understanding the policy platforms of each party and the candidates running in your constituency. While social media has a lot of content on the topic, it is very difficult to sort out objective facts from fiction. Each party has a website with information available for you to make the most informed decision.
For this provincial election UFA will be introducing a “Get out the Vote” page on UFA.com that will provide employees and our members access to all major political parties’ election platforms to make it easy to find information on policies that are of importance to you and your family.
Engagement events and opportunities to learn more will also be available on this page. We will do our best to keep you informed of upcoming important dates as well as provide information on how you can vote in the upcoming provincial election.
As an Albertan, you have the opportunity and responsibility to become as informed as possible and we will provide the tools to help facilitate the learning. The rest is up to you. Please take the time to engage in this important opportunity to participate in democracy.
Sincerely,
Carol Kitchen
