UFA Co-operative Ltd. (UFA) promotes “It’s more than a living. It’s a life.” Career development and opportunities for advancement within UFA are just a few of the reasons why we are being recognized for earning Alberta’s Top 70 Employers for 2018.

This is the sixth year in a row that the Alberta-based co-operative has been named in Alberta's Top 70 Employers annual competition.

"We have opportunities at many levels, and we want employees to see that there are career paths they can follow," said Carol Kitchen, UFA President & CEO. Kitchen said it is always an honour to be recognized as one of Alberta's Top 70 Employers.

Alberta employers are once again raising the bar when it comes to progressive working conditions and forward-thinking human resource policies, said Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada Inc. "When you look at the range of industries represented by this year's winners, you can see the outlines of the new economy in Alberta," said Yerema. While the organization said it is too early to talk about a recovery, the province is expected to lead the country this year in economic growth.

First published in 2006, Alberta's Top 70 Employers is a special designation that recognizes Alberta employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers throughout Alberta were evaluated by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in Alberta; employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.

Community involvement is also another area where UFA thrives. Its community investment program delivers $1 million back to rural communities throughout its network, from Milk River to High Level, Swift Current to Fort St. John, and all areas in between.

"When you look at the range of industries represented by this year's winners, you can see the outlines of the new economy in Alberta," said Yerema.

The full list of Alberta's Top 70 Employers for 2018 is available in a special magazine published in the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal this morning. Detailed reasons for selection, explaining why each of the winners was selected, with hundreds of additional stories and photos, were also released this morning and are accessible via the competition homepage.
