UFA Wins Gold for “On the Road to Better “ Brand Video

The United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative Ltd. (UFA) recently took home a top award for agricultural journalism and communications at the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) conference.

Held in picturesque Quebec City September 27-30, 2017 the annual event hosts agricultural communicators and journalists from across the country for a weekend of professional development and farm tours. 

The culmination of the event is CFWF’s awards program that recognizes the best in Canadian agricultural communications and journalism. UFA received the prestigious Jack McPherson Gold award in Electronic-Media Video for their brand video, “On the Road to Better.” The video was part of the co-operative’s launch of its 2017 brand campaign.  

Corporate Affairs Manager, Tracey Feist accepted the award on behalf of UFA. “Our team worked with a talented videographer Tom Acton of New Path Influence from Calgary. Together we created a video to help illustrate a brand campaign that was authentic and aligned with our new marketing direction. The project features UFA member Jason Glass, a seasoned film stuntman and chuckwagon driver, who brought an authenticity in telling our story and helped to bring the campaign to life through the powerful medium of video. This award is significant because we took a chance on the cinematography to illustrate how, as a historic co-operative, we are traveling On the Road to Better. It’s always an honour to be recognized by your peers.”

UFA also sponsored the Alice Switzer award for Best News Release. Sponsoring this award category holds special meaning for the co-operative because of it being named after long-time Alberta journalist and UFA staff member Alice Switzer.

“I first met Alice when I joined the CFWF organization in 1989. She made a lasting impression on me with regards to upholding excellence in journalism and the importance of communications within the agriculture industry. It is important for UFA to recognize writers who profile agriculture through the power of the written word,” says Feist.  

CFWF’s membership includes approximately 350 agricultural journalists, broadcasters and communicators from across Canada. UFA would like to thank the Dairy Farmers of Canada for sponsoring the Jack McPherson award, as well as congratulate all the winners and nominees that exemplify the journalistic talent of farm writers across Canada.
