March 20, 2017—Calgary, AB—On Friday, March 17 delegates and directors came together at UFA’s 2017 Annual General Meeting to discuss co-operative strategy and performance, and to vote on eligible director positions.
This year, four board positions were eligible for election. Directors Jim Laverick and James Bettcher were re-elected, while UFA welcomed two newly elected candidates—Patricia Henderson and Cindy Bjorklund. All candidates were elected to full three year terms. Tim Bancroft and Jake Burlet were not re-elected and are no longer members of the board at UFA.
"We are very excited to welcome Trish Henderson and Cindy Bjorklund to the board of directors,” said Kevin Hoppins, Chairman of the Board. “They bring unique perspectives, a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will enhance the governance of our co-operative. On behalf of the board I would like to thank Tim Bancroft and Jake Burlet for their years of dedicated guidance, wisdom and service to UFA."
Patricia Henderson has a lifetime of experience as an agricultural producer in Alberta helping operate her family’s central Alberta purebred cattle operation as well as owning a small cow herd near Cochrane with her husband. She earned a B.Sc. degree in Agribusiness Management from the University of Alberta and for nine years held a variety of roles at Farm Credit Canada; including direct work with famers to create successful financial plans and providing lenders across Canada with customized research to improve their business advisory services to primary producers and large agribusinesses. For the past four years she has held contract positions and completed freelance work for a various agriculture organizations.
Cindy Bjorklund is a lifelong cattle producer who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the production, management and promotion of livestock. Along with her agricultural background, Cindy has been a small business owner, a teacher in secondary and post-secondary institutions and owns a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta. She also has an extensive understanding and passion for community investment and is involved in 4H Alberta, a partner of UFA.
Kevin Hoppins was acclaimed as Chairman for a one year term in a decision made by the board of directors.
