Agriculture Industry Consultations on the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) Update
Representatives from the United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) Government Relations team participated in the Agriculture Industry Consultations for the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) on January 29 in Edmonton and on February 6 in Lethbridge, 2018.
UFA Joins Biological Carbon Canada
In order to continue to help raise the profile of agriculture and the environmental best management practices of our industry, UFA has become a member of Biological Carbon Canada (BCC) which is an Alberta based non-profit society working to enhance the global competitiveness of Canada’s forestry and agriculture sectors.
Clean Fuel Standard Regulations Update
The Government of Canada plans to put in place Clean Fuel Standard Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Consultations on the development of the Clean Fuel Standard began in January of 2017.
Department of Finance released proposed changes
On July 18th, 2017 the Department of Finance released proposed changes to several tax rules affecting private corporations and its shareholders. These proposed changes will be of specific interest to our farmer members and our agents, many of whom operate their business through private corporations and who also may have a family trust for the benefit of family members.
Food Policy for Canada
The Government of Canada has recently announced the development of a Food Policy for Canada. This policy will look to seek opportunities and tackle challenges across the entire agricultural food chain focusing on four major themes.
