The History of Farmer's Day

1945 – At annual convention, UFA establishes a fixed date to be known as “Farmers’ Day” [sic]  in Alberta.
UFA passes 
a resolution to lobby the Alberta government to declare Farmers’ Day a provincial holiday.9

1951 – Alberta government declares every second Friday in June to be Farmers Holiday by Order in Council. Schools were officially closed for the day and farming and agriculture are celebrated in local communities.

 1975 – Amendment to the Schools Act left the decision to declare a Farmer’s holiday with the local school board. Some schools still recognize it today.

2010
– UFA revived the tradition of Farmer’s Day as a way to honour the contributions of Alberta farmers and the agriculture industry.
