Advice from the UFA Grain Marketing expertsSeptember 22 2009 Grain markets
continue to be sluggish with a lack of demand trade talk is 160 plus bushel
yield on US corn which could push fee prices much lower Wheat is looking
just as poor with large production and a lack of demand that has adjusted
prices by at least a $1 00 bushel Buyers and sellers are a long way apart
with farmers reluctant to sell at these prices Farmers may move prices
higher in the near future as demand may increase but this will be short
lived September 18 2009 Grain markets continue under pressure due to
harvest Feedlots early on were waiting and preparing to look at feed wheat
as a option but as each day goes by the weather has converted a great deal
of wheat to higher grades Earlier this week a frost scare in the US was
short lived and only lasted a day with markets heading lower The big
question with the huge corn crop coming and the potential for cheap product
do cattle head south Feed prices have been very soft with no cattle on feed
but that soon will change and prices over the past 24 hours have moved
higher to reflect that Watch the markets daily as change will be the name
of the game Grain Markets for May 13 2009Feed Barley Domestic grain markets
continue to be under pressure a lack of demand due to lower cattle numbers
has put a lid on prices Normally at this time of year we see higher prices
and increased demand due to limited access because of road bans and farmer
seeding Excess supply of feed and direct sales by farmers will continue to
hold feed prices lower With seeding approaching and bin space now becoming
a topic farmers may look at sell more supplies into the market In summary
do not expect feed demand or prices to rally in the near future Feed Wheat
Feed wheat inventory on farm seems to be high We all must understand that
the demand for wheat has been under pressure due to the depopulation of the
hog industry Alberta hog inventory has fallen by 8 6% from last year Feed
mills have struggled to find demand and that will continue Canola Canola
markets remain firm Those farmers who feel that there is movement in the
futures should strongly look at booking the basis for new crop and those
with old inventory prices on the farm are in the high $9 00 Please contact
