The UFA Board of Directors has an Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Committee whose mandate is to review, assess, report and make recommendations on the co-operative’s policies and management systems, as well as performance, compliance and related topics.

Health and Safety
UFA has a number of committees for health and safety that represent all areas of the business. Their mandate is to ensure consistent processes and documentation in addition to making recommendations to management for addressing occupational, health and safety-related concerns.

The committees are supported through a team of health and safety professionals who create and implement training and awareness programs and proactively monitor regulatory matters.

Environment
UFA has a comprehensive environmental program in place including installation of state-of-the-art petroleum systems at new sites, a proactive fuel inventory control process and a site remediation program. Other environmental practices include:

• Safe storage and distribution of crop-related chemicals;
• A scheduled replacement program for older petroleum systems;
• A partnership with the Alberta Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Company to educate member-owners and customers about environmentally sustainable farm practices; and
• Emergency response plans and training programs for responding to incidents that have the potential to impact the employees, customers and communities we serve.
