governed by a board of directors At each annual general meeting one third
of the 11 directors are elected by existing directors as well as the
delegates who represent the co operative's owners Directors are elected to
three year terms The board of directors annually elects a chairman to serve
for a one year term Jim Laverick Chairman Elected to the board: 2008 I
became a director in 2008 because I have a passion for Alberta in
particular rural Alberta agri business financial issues and co operatives I
believe my experience in strategic and financial planning and my ability to
work with and develop effective management teams will help to build
consensus and contribute to making sound business decisions I grew up on a
family farm in the Grand Prairie Area and began a career wih the Co
operators in the 1970s Throughout my 38 year career I took on many roles
including Senior Vice President of Insurance Operation where I was
responsible for HR planning underwriting sales claims and the bottom line
performance of Co operators General Insurance Company Through my work I was
able to get involved in various co operatives Debbie AdolphsonElected to
the board: 2003 I became a director following five years as a delegate with
UFA During this time I came to appreciate the value of a co operative and
wanted to be more involved in the governance of UFA As a co op we are
facing many challenges and I look forward to being a part of the team who
helps guide UFA into its second successful century I am currently Chair of
the Human Resources Compensation Committee and appreciate being part of the
development of UFA's human resource strategy as we recognize the value of
people to the success of UFA and strive to become an employer of choice I
graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Geology and
subsequently worked as a geologist for Petro Canada Following this my
husband and I operated an Environmental Service Company for 15 years and we
currently operate a hay grain oil seed and cow calf and horse breeding farm
in Valleyview I am currently enrolled in the Human Resource Compensation
Committee Certification program part of the director's college continuing
education program Tim BancroftElected to the board: 2008 I became a
director in 2008 because I feel I have relevant knowledge to offer and an
interest in seeing UFA grow and prosper In my 30 plus years with Shell
Canada I've developed excellent knowledge of the workings of the petroleum
refinery supply and distribution I have had the opportunity to serve as a
member of boards and been the management support on compensation health
safety and environment committees I also enjoy volunteering with the
Sunshine Ski Glencoe clubs and the United Way Bob ChisholmElected to the
board: 2009 I became a director in 2009 because of my extensive experience
with co operatives finance and my general interest in the governance
process UFA has accomplished a lot during the century and I would like to
be part of the process to ensure another 100 years of success I am very
active in our family cow calf operation and I am a certified general
accountant CGA with over 25 years experience in financial services and
banking I provide financial expertise and assist with the overall
management of our ranch W A Ranches Ltd I have also had the opportunity to
be on a variety of boards and community committees Bill DobsonElected to
the board: 2008 I became a director in 2008 because UFA is an organization
that I understand and trust Rural life benefits greatly from UFA and I want
to help make this a company that will be around for another 100 years My
family and I operate a 1700 acre grain and oilseed farm in Paradise Valley
Alberta I am also a fourth generation producer and have been farming since
1973 I am the past president of Wild Rose Agriculture Producers Alberta's
general farm organization I've also sat on the board of directors of The
Canadian Federation of Agriculture served on The Co operators board as a
director from 1994 2000 and again from 2002 2007 and have been on a variety
of committees including Audit Conduct Review Investment Policy and the
Executive Duane GlimsdaleElected to the board: 2005 I have been involved
with UFA for fourteen years ten years in which I served as a delegate and
currently serving my fifth year as a director I became a director because
with my 10 years of delegate experience and hundreds of hours of training
provided by UFA I felt well prepared to serve as a director In a director
position I am able to give back to UFA what it has given me and ensure our
co operative remains progressive and sustainable I am a fourth generation
farmer and currently reside on the original farm site where my Great
Grandfather lived My cousin and I manage a 7000 acre farm on which we grow
cereals oil seed and pulse crops I am also a licensed heavy duty mechanic
and operate a repair shop during the winter months I have participated in
the Claresholm 4 H Multi Club and the local curling club I am also involved
in the Claresholm Fish and Game club and the Claresholm Trap Club where I
hold one of six director positions Bill LeeElected to the board: 2008 I
became a delegate in 1996 and enjoyed my 12 years in the role because I
grew and learned I became a director in 2008 and where I'm able to continue
my growth and learning and have the opportunity to give back to UFA I'm
currently Chair of the UFA Compensation Committee and a member of the HR
Compensation and the Environment Health and Safety Committees I've been
running a cattle operation and implementing environmental and conservation
farm practices for over 30 years I've been a member of the Alberta
Environmental Farm Plan management team and have been involved in a variety
of boards governance and community organizations Jacob MiddelkampElected to
the board: 2010 I became a director in 2010 because of my experience in
diverse boards and committees in Holland and Canada I am the Director of
the Alberta Chicken Producers ACP and chair of the Research Committee with
ACP I am also the chair of the Canadian Poultry Research Council director
of the Poultry Welfare Advisory Commission at the University of Guelph and
chair if the Coronado Gas Co op u I am originally from Holland and moved to
Canada 13 years ago I have been married to my wife Janny for 35 years and
we have two children We live between Gibbons and Redwater and we have a
broiler farm and 800 acres of hayland I have farmed for 37 years u I was an
active and engaged UFA delegate for five years and sat on the delegate
representation committee for two years I also enjoy volunteering on the
Redwater Fire Society I believe in the vision mission and values of the UFA
and I want to ensure UFA remains a viable and successful co operative
Cornie TeichroebElected to the board: 2006 I became a director after
serving as a delegate for three years because I have a very keen interest
in business working with other people and learning new skills I was a
farmer from 1975 to 2008 and also worked in other areas such as owning a
logging company owning a hardwood store a trucking firm and was the general
manager for a construction company I chaired the Chamber of Commerce for
four years was Vice chair of REA for two years and the AADC appeals board
for three years I am involved in the Agriculture society and have been a
School Council chairman for 12 years Mic ThiessenElected to the board: 2009
I became a director in 2009 after serving as a delegate for five years I
sense a high level of trust from fellow delegates and directors and as we
move forward I fully respect what our forefathers have done and also
realize that UFA needs to reflect the reality of today's environment I have
been involved in agriculture my whole life and together with my brother I
currently farm 600 acres and operate a small feedlot close to Lethbridge I
have also raised purebred sheep and have served as a board member of the
Alberta Sheep and Wool Commission and the Southern Alberta Sheep Breeders I
have served on the UFA nominating committee and have been elected chairman
of the AGM I am currently enrolled in the Director's College and anticipate
finishing module five in April 2009 I am also an active member of my church
and have been involved the local 4 H Barry WebsterElected to the board:
2008 I became a director because I support UFA and want to incorporate them
in my life I was a delegate from 1996 until I was elected to the board in
2008 As a director I've served on the UFA democratic review committee the
UFA History Society and as the chair of the delegate representative
committee I have a passion for agriculture and affinity for rural life and
my experience in farming the courses I've taken and serving as a delegate
have given me the knowledge and expertise to serve UFA owners I have been
involved in agriculture all my life and currently run a 500 cow calf
operation as well as doing custom farming and haying I've worked with the
scouting program for over 12 years and am very active in my church Becoming
a UFA Director: The role of a Director today is more onerous and demanding
more complex and multi dimensional than it has been in the past Directors
of UFA are expected to bring to the Board the broadest possible knowledge
and depth of experience from their chosen business or profession For more
